FRIDA's BROW @ MYSPACE

Three voices, three songwriters, and harmonies that'll knock your socks off. Jennifer Noxon, Chris MacLean and Alise Marlane weave a colourful blanket of contemporary folk with threads of traditional, jazz, blues and bluegrass. Their self titled debut album will take you on a rich multi-instrumental journey through twelve soulful tales, both original and borrowed, that capture the depth and magic of human experience. These three accomplished singer-songwriters have been orbiting each other musically for years. When their voices came together on stage for the first time a few years ago it was clearly a beautiful blend. They've since been painting their way across the wide canvas of their musical influences with beautifully crafted arrangements that include guitar, harmonium, mandolin, dulcimer, harmonica and percussion.

"...a rare find...powerful songwriting...intriguing musical arrangements."
Chris White, Artistic Director, CKCU-Ottawa Folk Festival

"...The three part harmony, the stage presence, the songs, and the musicianship are world class." Dean Verger - Rasputin's Folk Club

"The music is like chocolate cake with whip cream and goes down real smooth." Missy Burgess, singer/songwriter

An award-winning songwriter, Chris MacLean (vocals, harmonium, guitar & dulcimer) has her hand in several musical pots. She performs solo and since 2002 has been touring internationally with the world music group Galitcha. Chris can be heard on her own stirring debut CD 'Learn to be Loved', Galitcha’s ‘SATRANG’ and ‘Blé d’Inde Celebration’ and as a backup vocalist on several other projects. Chris adds her natural talent for harmony, her 'bell-like voice' and mischievous sense of humour to the mix as part of Frida's Brow. Chris participates as a facilitator in various songwriting workshops and runs Wunderdog Creative, a home-based graphic design company.

Since the release of her first CD ‘Stillness, Hold On’, Alise Marlane (vocals, guitar & mandolin) has been turning heads in the Ontario and Quebec folk communities. Having spent years honing her guitar, mandolin and song writing skills, Alise pulls from an overflowing basket of poetic and soul-stirring songs. She brings her strong musicianship, compelling voice and a love for arranging to Frida's Brow. Alise has carved various paths through the arts, including many years as an art conservator, and currently juggles her time between her own music and giving private guitar instruction in Wakefield, QC.

Having spent several years as a visual artist and teacher, Jennifer Noxon (vocals, guitar, suitcase & brushes) began sharing her songs with audiences in the early 90’s. She performs her infectious and painterly songs solo and with her trio. An award-winning songwriter with two acclaimed CD’s - Watch As You Walk and SWEET, Jennifer brings her shimmering voice, guitar, percussion and a love for rhythm to Frida’s Brow. Jennifer’s paintings can be seen on display in various public and private spaces in the Ottawa region.

Frida's Brow gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Ontario Arts Council, and the Government of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage (Canada Music Fund) and Canada's Private Radio Broadcasters, for their self-titled 2007 debut recording.
